SHACADEMY

Origin Story

Belmont School

Where many of the philosophies, approaches and early ideas that later evolved into The SHAC first emerged.

Belmont is not the proof asset. Belmont is the starting point. Early outdoor education, children's programmes, mountain biking and adventure learning at Belmont seeded the thinking that eventually grew into The SHAC and SHACADEMY.

Section 1

The challenge

An education setting with the land, the appetite and the young people — but no established outdoor activity operation to bring those things together.

Section 2

What we did

Belmont was one of the earliest sites where Skip developed and operated an outdoor activity setup. The work covered children's programmes, mountain biking, adventure learning and the early venue activation thinking that later carried through to The SHAC.

  • Designed and delivered outdoor education sessions
  • Established children's programmes and mountain biking activity
  • Activated the site as a working outdoor environment
  • Built early leadership experience through live delivery

Content to follow

This section is reserved for future content covering outcomes. Final copy, outcomes and media will be added here.

Section 4

Lessons learned

Belmont shaped the conviction that outdoor learning works best when young people are given real responsibility in real environments alongside experienced practitioners — the same principle that runs through every SHACADEMY service today.

Section 5

Why it matters

Belmont is where SHACADEMY's approach began. Every venue, programme and system that came after it is built on lessons first learned here.
