Water safety and location support for productions filming outdoors

Independent water safety planning, open-water safety cover and location support for productions filming outdoors.

Overview

Water and outdoor scenes need more than a good location. They need someone who understands the water, the risk, the crew's schedule and the practical detail that decides whether the shot happens safely on the day.

SHACADEMY provides water safety planning, open-water safety cover and location support for film, television, commercial and documentary productions — working with production teams in London and the South East, on location across the UK, and internationally where it makes sense.

Scope

The safety and location layer around your shoot.

SHACADEMY plans and delivers the water-safety side of a shoot and helps productions find, assess and open up outdoor and water locations. Creative, crew, casting and kit stay with the production, and we work alongside your own location team rather than replacing it.

Safety crew, rescue craft and specialist resources are drawn from SHACADEMY's team and trusted network and confirmed shoot by shoot — we do not own a safety-boat fleet or claim to supply everything ourselves.

UK-wide, with selected international support through trusted local contacts where the brief, local requirements and resources allow.

Production Services

Five ways SHACADEMY supports a shoot.

  • 01

    Planning & water safety

Risk-assessment input, a water-safety plan built around the shot list rather than a template, the documentation insurers and location owners ask for, and the pre-shoot coordination that gets everyone to the day with the same plan.

  • 02

    Safety teams & rescue resources

Lifeguards and experienced water-safety personnel for shoot days, with rescue craft and additional resources where a scene requires them.

  • 03

    Locations & feasibility

Finding outdoor and water locations that suit the shot, or an independent operational read on one already chosen: conditions, access, rescue access, safety provision, permissions and crew logistics — plus introductions to venues and operators where appropriate.

  • 04

    Shoot-day support

Practical operational support on location, so someone experienced is watching the water while the director and first AD concentrate on the shot.

  • 05

    People in the water

Experienced open-water swimmers and paddlers where a scene genuinely requires water-capable contributors, subject to the safety plan. SHACADEMY is not a casting agency.

Every production is scoped individually. Not every group is needed on every shoot, and availability is confirmed per production.

Common Challenges

What clients usually arrive with.

  • Water or outdoor scenes that need experienced safety cover.
  • Locations that need practical vetting, not just visual scouting.
  • Short lead times and shifting shot lists.

How SHACADEMY Helps

Practical support, grounded in real operations.

  • 01

One experienced point of contact for the water-safety and location side of a shoot, from first conversation through to the wrap.

  • 02

Safety planning and shoot-day leadership from practitioners who have run outdoor and water operations at scale.

  • 03

Specialist support — safety crew, rescue craft, venues, operators and trusted local contacts in the UK and abroad — coordinated by SHACADEMY, so the production is not managing multiple suppliers under pressure.

Questions

The questions we get asked.

Do you provide safety boats and safety crew?
Yes, where a scene requires them. Rescue craft and safety crew are coordinated through SHACADEMY's team and trusted network, and confirmed for each production rather than promised in advance. SHACADEMY does not own a safety-boat fleet.
Do you assess locations as well as cover them, and can you work with our own location team?
Both. We help find outdoor and water locations and give an independent operational read on one you have already chosen — access, water environment, rescue access, safety provision and crew logistics. We work alongside your location manager or scout rather than replacing them.
What documentation and risk-assessment support do you provide?
Site-specific risk assessment, a water-safety plan for the scene, briefing notes for cast and crew, and the operational detail location owners and insurers usually ask for. We do not issue certification or accreditation.
Can you cover a water scene at short notice?
Sometimes. Short-notice days are part of production life and you will get a straight answer quickly about whether we can resource it properly. If we can't do it safely, we will say so rather than take the day.
What do you need from us to quote?
Shoot dates, the location or the region, the water environment, what is happening in or on the water, how many people will be in it, and what support you already have in place. That is usually enough for a straight answer.

Tell us about the shoot.

Tell us the dates, the location and what the shot needs. If we can help, you'll get a straight answer quickly; if we can't, we'll say so and point you somewhere sensible.
