About

About SHACADEMY

Practical experience. Trusted network. Real-world delivery.

SHACADEMY combines decades of founder-led experience with a carefully developed network of trusted specialists — helping landowners, venues, events, productions and organisations solve complex outdoor projects.

Background

SHACADEMY is not simply a consultancy, and it is not one person. It is an organisation built on decades of practical experience and a network of trusted specialists who have delivered real projects in the real world.

Everything we do draws on years of on-the-ground delivery — on the water, in the field, behind the scenes of productions, expeditions, events and education programmes — and on the people we’ve built relationships with along the way.

The work has always come before the qualification, the network before the brochure, and the relationship before the contract. That order matters.

What clients and partners describe is consistent: experienced people who have been there before, who tell the truth quickly, and who know the right people to make a good project succeed.

The right expertise, from the right people, for the right project.

Why SHACADEMY is different

Operator. Entrepreneur. Systems Builder.

SHACADEMY was not created in a boardroom.

SHACADEMY is built on more than three decades of practical experience across safety, outdoor operations, business development and project delivery.

The organisation brings together lessons learned from developing venues, running events, managing risk, building businesses, leading teams and creating systems that help organisations operate more effectively.

The experience behind SHACADEMY spans lifeguarding, swimming instruction, outdoor leadership, venue development, event operations, production support, expedition logistics, business creation and technology development.

Along the way, that experience helped create and develop organisations, events and systems including The SHAC, GLAGLA UK, large-scale open water events, venue operations, digital booking systems, Ask Matt, SmartBand and Race Mode.

Many consultants understand theory.

Many operators understand delivery.

Many technology companies understand software.

SHACADEMY sits in the middle.

We combine practical operational experience, commercial understanding and technology that supports people rather than replacing them.

People first. Technology second.

Technology should help capable people do their jobs better. It should never replace judgement, experience or human relationships.

The Founder

SHACADEMY was founded by Scott “Skip” Innes. His experience spans more than three decades — from lifeguarding and swimming instruction into business development, venue creation, event operations, technology systems and outdoor leadership.

Skip’s story is the origin of SHACADEMY, but SHACADEMY is not Skip alone. Over years of running venues, delivering events and supporting projects, he has built the network of specialists that now sits behind the organisation — the people SHACADEMY draws on to help projects succeed.

Lifeguard & Swimming Instructor

Early years on the water, learning that safety and good experience are the same thing.

Property & SJI Overseas

Developing properties and exploring how destinations, communities and experiences connect.

Ride Bansko

An adventure travel business in Bulgaria — tourism, logistics, partnerships and destination development in a new environment.

Music & Creative Projects

A lifelong passion alongside outdoor adventure that led to projects combining nature, creativity and live performance — from woodland events with local musicians to outdoor music experiences that bring people together.

The SHAC

Founder-led creation of one of the UK's most established inland outdoor water venues — built from the water up, and the operational framework (safety management, event delivery, staff development, open water procedures, customer experience, documentation, training culture and venue management) that now underpins SHACADEMY.

GLAGLA UK

Conceived, founded, built and operated by Skip Innes and Craig, his Yukon 1000 paddle partner — a founder-created event and successful example of event creation, delivery and operational leadership.

Yukon 1000

2023 SUP division record holders — proof that the same operational thinking works at the limits of endurance.

SHACADEMY

Turning decades of practical experience into structured support for venues, events, projects and people.

We Are Wild

Testing whether nature, adventure, learning, creativity and community can coexist in one integrated project.

Professional Practice & Sector Contribution

SHACADEMY is not built solely on past experience. Alongside client work, Skip continues to contribute to how the outdoor sector develops — through consultancy, operational delivery, coaching and involvement in the standards that shape safe, credible practice.

That contribution includes ongoing input into the review and development of the STA Open Water Lifeguard qualification, and the creation of one of the UK’s first structured e-foil coach training programmes to reach insurable status — helping establish a practical framework for commercial coaching and delivery in an emerging discipline.

It also includes the continued development of operational systems designed to support capable people in demanding environments — SmartBand, Race Mode, Ask Matt and the SHACADEMY Independent Operational Review Methodology among them — alongside day-to-day consultancy, mentoring and operational support for venues, organisations, events and outdoor businesses.

This work is supported by recognised coaching, safety and leadership qualifications, maintained as part of professional practice rather than presented as credentials. The emphasis remains on experience, contribution and the quiet business of helping the sector do things well.

The SHACADEMY Philosophy

People.

Places.

Organisations.

Helping the outdoor sector thrive.

Real-world experience. Practical solutions. Lasting impact. SHACADEMY sits at the intersection of consultancy, safety, operations, events, production, people, places and technology — one trusted partner for whatever the outdoor sector throws at you.

The SHACADEMY Network

A collaborative consultancy.

SHACADEMY is founder-led and independent. Around it sits a small, carefully chosen network of trusted specialists and strategic partners — people and organisations we already know, already work with, and would recommend on merit.
